I finally found some form at Watkins Glen during Week 4 of the iGPS. After starting from pole in my only race of the week, I managed to finish 2nd behind James Wyckoff, albeit in the 2nd split.
Early in the race, a good start ensured I led the field with Luis Babboni uncomfortably close behind. Babboni managed to get alongside twice heading into the chicane but was forced to back out as I held the inside. Wyckoff and Atte Pahkala collided exiting turn one on lap 5 reducing the leading train to 3 cars, separated by less than two seconds.
I held on to the lead while Wyckoff collided with Babboni behind him, sending Babboni into the wall, but Wyckoff emerged undamaged despite 2 collisions. He managed to overtake on lap 13 and held on to the lead until the end of the race, despite me closing to within 2 seconds in the closing laps, including the fastest lap of the race.
The previous weeks of the season resulted in 2 crashes during week 1 at Sonoma, but somehow managing an acceptable points haul due to a large number of casualties at the start in the SOF race. Week 2 was even worse with a lowly 13th the best result as I struggled to get used to the car. I did not race at Motegi so I am hoping the good result at Watkins can carry on through to Interlagos.
